Planet Beauty (planetbeauty.com) is a California beauty retailer that also sells online across the US. This guide is for shoppers who found a price there and want to know whether the store is real, how shipping and returns work, and what to check first. It is not a review of the products. We have not tested any product. Policies change, so check the current pages before you order.

Quick answer
- It is a real, long-running retailer. Its About page says it was founded in Newport Beach, California in 1992 and has over 15 stores in the state.
- Its own pages disagree on returns. The two return pages differ on return shipping, the opened-product rule and refund timing. See below.
- Shipping is free from $59, per the shipping page, otherwise $5.99 for ground.
- Reviews are mostly positive, with a delivery-problem tail. Trustpilot shows 4.1 out of 5 from 8,304 reviews; Sitejabber shows only two, both negative.
- Verdict: Legitimate and established. Ask support to confirm the return terms in writing before you buy opened-risk items.

Who runs Planet Beauty
The About page calls Planet Beauty a privately owned beauty retailer, run as Beauty Web Limited Partnership. It says it started in 1992 and sells more than 20,000 products across makeup, skincare, haircare, tools, bath and fragrance. It names brands it carries, such as Kiehl's, Smashbox and Obagi. The terms of service say California law governs the site; their last update shown is 2013.
Per its FAQ it also offers in-store pickup and same-day delivery for much of Orange County, California.
Ingredients and labels (what the store lists)
We found no page where the store explains where its stock comes from. The About page only says it carries named brands and trains staff through vendor education departments. That is the store's description, not proof of supply chain.
What you can do: compare the product page with the brand's own site for size and ingredient list, and check the batch code and expiry date on arrival. If something looks wrong, photograph it and write to the store. We make no claim about what any product does.
Opened-product return rules
This is where the store's pages conflict.
- The Returns page says most items can be returned within 30 days, but selected tools and devices are final sale and say so on the product page. For everything else it says refunds or exchanges are available within 14 days if the item is unused, in original packaging with the seal unbroken and the package undamaged.
- The Refund policy page says 30 days and items in "new or gently used" condition. It does not mention the 14-day sealed rule.
- The FAQ says 30 days from receipt, except items marked non-returnable.
Plan as if the stricter rule applies: an opened product may be refused.
Shipping and delivery
The shipping page lists these options for orders up to 10 pounds:
- Free ground: from $59, 3 to 7 business days plus processing.
- Ground: $5.99, same transit time.
- Expedited: $15, 1 to 3 business days; 2nd Day Air $35. Flammable items such as aerosols cannot go by air.
- Alaska, Hawaii, territories: $45, 5 to 15 business days.
- International: $70, 10 to 20 business days; customs fees are the buyer's.
Carriers named are FedEx, UPS and USPS. One page says orders usually ship in 1 to 2 business days and the store reserves up to 4; the policy page says 1 to 4. Most ground orders should arrive within 10 days, per the store.
Returns and refunds
Per the Returns page:
- Start by emailing customer service with your order number. Allow 3 business days for instructions.
- Returns must be started and received within 30 days of purchase, and arrive within 10 days of starting.
- Include the original receipt (printable from your account) and packing slip.
- Original shipping is not refunded unless the store erred or the item was defective; for free-shipping orders, $5.99 is deducted.
- You pay return shipping on mail returns; stores accept in-person returns.
- Card refunds go to the original card. Gift card or PayPal purchases are refunded as store gift card credit.
The Refund policy page says return shipping fees are told to you after you start the return and deducted from the order total. The FAQ says orders can be cancelled before shipment and damaged items should be reported by email with photos.
What shoppers say
Trustpilot (4.1 out of 5, 8,304 reviews, 1,286 in the last year, read 26 October 2026) was about 75% five-star and 13% one-star. These are customer opinions.
- Positive: an easy site and checkout, good prices, and store pickup.
- Negative: orders not delivered or with no delivery date, a price that rose at checkout once shipping was added, a promotion that did not apply, and earlier reports of damage. The company replies to several complaints.
On Sitejabber/SmartCustomer there are two reviews (2.0 average), dated March 2023 and February 2024, both about missing items or poor support. Two reviews is too small a sample to judge the store.
Verdict
Planet Beauty appears to be a genuine, long-established retailer with physical stores, written policies and a large, mostly positive Trustpilot record. The cautions are the inconsistent return wording, the 14-day sealed-product rule on only one page, and a minority of delivery complaints. Treat any product you open before deciding as a risk.
Checklist before you order
- Read the product page for "final sale" wording, especially tools and devices.
- Decide before opening: the stricter rule says unopened and sealed.
- Check the total with shipping at checkout, and whether you reach $59 for free ground.
- Screenshot the shipping and return pages on the day you buy.
- Email info@planetbeauty.com to confirm return shipping cost if the order is large.
- Check batch codes and expiry on arrival.
- Pay by credit card, not PayPal, if you want a refund to your own card; PayPal refunds are stated as store credit.
- Track the parcel and write to support after the stated processing time passes.
What we could not confirm
- Where the store buys its stock; no sourcing statement was found.
- A BBB profile or rating; search results gave none we could read.
- The full list of payment methods.
- Trustpilot page access beyond the summary we could read; the review counts are from that summary.
- PissedConsumer reviews, which we did not open.
Conflicts between the store's own pages: return shipping (customer pays vs set by support), opened-product rule (14 days sealed vs 30 days gently used), refund timing (7 to 10 days vs 3 to 4 business days), customer-service hours and phone availability, and processing time (1 to 2 days vs 1 to 4).
