This guide is for anyone thinking of buying a New Era fitted, a team snapback or another sports cap from Hat Club (hatclub.com) and wondering whether the store is legitimate and how its returns work. It is not a review of the products. We have not tested any product. Policies change, so read the current terms at checkout.

Quick answer

  • Real business: The domain was registered in 1998, the store gives a street address in Gilbert, Arizona, and it says it has run since 1992 with stores in several US cities.
  • Authenticity: Hat Club says it sells authentic licensed caps. That is its own claim. We could not find independent proof either way, and no reviewer we read raised it.
  • Returns need care: The store's pages give a 30-day window, a $6.99 fee taken from the refund, and no returns on sale items. Two of its pages word the window and the fee differently (see below).
  • Verdict: Looks like a genuine specialist retailer with mostly positive review-site ratings and some delivery and order-accuracy complaints. Read the sale-item and fee rules before buying.

Who runs Hat Club

The About page describes Hat Club as a fitted-hat specialist founded in 1992, with stores in New York City, Los Angeles, Phoenix and the Bay Area. It gives no legal company name. The contact page and refund policy list the Gilbert, Arizona address, and the terms say the online store runs on Shopify. Trustpilot's page says the profile was claimed in May 2025.

Authenticity of licensed caps

The Hat Shopping FAQs say Hat Club offers 100% authentic fitted hats. That is store-written marketing, so treat it as a claim. We did not check a brand or league page to see whether Hat Club is an authorized retailer. Compare labels and stitching with the brand's own site on arrival.

Sizing and fit for fitted and custom caps

A wrong fitted size is the likeliest reason to return a cap. The Find My Size page points to a New Era video and sells a $5 head measuring tape; it has no printed size table we could read. Returns need an unworn cap with tags, and the FAQ tells unsure shoppers not to wear the item.

Hat Club says it does not offer embroidery, custom logos or team and bulk orders. It sells in-stock licensed, branded or blank caps, so "custom" here means a listed product, not made to order.

Shipping and delivery

The banner and shipping page say US orders over $75 ship free (standard). Canada orders over $120, before duties and taxes, also ship free. We did not find the fee table for smaller orders.

The shipping page says most orders ship within 1-3 business days, then take 2-10 business days. The FAQ says weekday orders before 10am Pacific mostly ship within 72 hours. Split packages carry no extra fee. The store treats a US order as lost only after 10 business days from shipping (15 for military, 30 for international). Orders over $100 may need to ship to the card's billing address or use a verified PayPal account. International orders may face duties the page estimates at 15-20%.

Returns and refunds

Taken together, the pages say:

  1. Returns or exchanges within 30 days, for items in original condition with tags, or defective items.
  2. A $6.99 fee per returned order comes out of your refund; shipping and handling are not refunded.
  3. Sale items cannot be returned or exchanged (refund page only; the FAQ is silent).
  4. In-store returns need your receipt and original card; PayPal orders must be returned by mail.
  5. International returns are refund-only, with the customer paying return shipping.

Conflicts between the store's pages. The FAQ counts 30 days from purchase or delivery, whichever is longer, while the refund policy counts 30 days from the ship date. The FAQ calls the $6.99 a return shipping fee; the refund page calls it a restocking fee. We would plan for the shorter window and the fee. Shipped orders cannot be cancelled; you would pay to send them back.

We found no refund timing statement. A search summary of one Trustpilot review said the company mentioned store credit on returns; we could not confirm that on the store's own pages, so ask support first.

What shoppers say

  • Trustpilot: The page showed a TrustScore of 4.3 from 164 reviews (about 75% five-star, about 20% one-star), with reviews dated up to 22 October 2026. The page's star graphic showed 4.5, so its own figures differ slightly. A search snippet showed a 3.5 from 35 reviews on a Dutch-language regional page, so figures vary.
  • Praise: selection, fast delivery, an easy exchange.
  • Complaints: late delivery, wrong sizes or items, damaged or stained caps.
  • BBB: A search page showed two Hat Club entries (Gilbert and Tempe, Arizona), both rated F and not accredited, with no complaint counts or date. We could not open the profiles, so we do not know the reason. Treat it as a flag to check yourself.
  • SmartCustomer: no reviews listed (26 Oct 2026).

Verdict

Hat Club appears to be a long-running specialist retailer, not a pop-up shop. The domain is old, the address is real and review-site feedback is mostly positive. The cautions are the F-rated BBB entries we could not examine, occasional complaints about orders arriving wrong or damaged, and returns rules that cost $6.99 and exclude sale items. If you buy a fitted, check the size first and keep the tags on.

Checklist before you order

  1. Measure your head and use the New Era sizing video before choosing a fitted size.
  2. Check whether the cap is marked Sale; assume no return.
  3. Add the $6.99 fee and your own return postage to the price.
  4. Check checkout totals against the $75 free-shipping line.
  5. On arrival, check size, centering and stitching before removing tags.
  6. Photograph any damage or wrong item and email customerservice@hatclub.com at once.
  7. Pay by card or PayPal to keep dispute options, and screenshot the returns page.

What we could not confirm

  • Whether Hat Club is an authorized New Era or league licensee (no brand or league page read).
  • How long refunds take, and the shipping fee table for orders under $75.
  • Why BBB rates the entries F, and the complaint counts.
  • A printed size chart.
  • Whether the store-credit-on-return comment from a reviewer reflects current policy.
  • Reddit or independent community opinions.
