A wig is hard to judge from a photo, and many wig stores will not take it back once it has been worn or styled. This guide reads what two US wig stores' own policy pages say, so you know the rules before you pay. It is not a review of the wigs. We have not tested any wig or store, and the policies can change, so confirm the terms at checkout. It is for anyone buying a first wig, hair topper or hairpiece online, mainly in the US.

Quick answer
- Trying a wig on can end your right to return it. Both stores below accept returns only if the wig is unused, in its original packaging and free of scents, styling and brushing. One says it must be "not tried on".
- You usually pay return shipping. Both stores say the customer pays, and both say any free shipping you received is deducted from your refund or store credit.
- The clock is short. Both stores want the return posted within 5 days of receiving a return authorization (RMA) number, and Best Wig Outlet wants the request within 15 days of delivery.
- Final-sale items cannot come back. Items marked "No Exchange, No Refunds" are final sale at both stores.
- Orders from abroad can carry duties. Both stores say the importer pays duty and taxes.

1. Size and cap construction first
Because a worn wig generally cannot be returned, choose carefully before you order. ABC Wigs filters its wigs by cap size, from Ultra Petite through Large, and has a page on choosing a cap construction. Measure your head, compare it with the store's own size information and read the product page for the cap type. Our guide to how to read clothing size charts online explains how to measure and what size charts do and do not tell you.
2. Returns
From the stores' return pages (no effective date shown at either):
- Condition. ABC Wigs says the wig must be unused, not tried on, not styled, not damaged and free of any odors or scents, in its original packaging. If it shows signs of use or damage, it is sent back to you. Best Wig Outlet says products showing signs of wear, damage, odor or alteration are sent back and not accepted, and wigs must be completely free of scents, styling or brushing.
- Who pays. Both stores say customers pay all return shipping costs.
- Time limits. Both say the return package must be postmarked within five days of receiving the RMA number. Best Wig Outlet also says return requests must be submitted within 15 days of delivery.
- Free shipping is clawed back. If your original order had free shipping, both stores deduct the actual shipping cost from your refund or store credit.
- Reorders. Both say that if you return an item and try to reorder the same style and color, the new order is automatically canceled.
- Exchanges. If the new item costs more you pay the difference; if it costs less, the difference is issued as store credit. Free shipping does not apply to exchanges.
- Refunds. They go to the original payment method with no restocking fee, though damaged or altered items may carry extra fees.
- Store credit. It is valid for one year and free shipping does not apply when you use it.
3. Shipping and delivery
- Processing. Both stores say same-day processing needs an order placed by 9:30 am Pacific time on a business day; otherwise it starts the next business day. Estimated delivery dates include 1 to 3 business days of processing plus transit.
- Carriers. ABC Wigs lists UPS Ground and USPS plus faster US Air services; Best Wig Outlet lists UPS, FedEx and USPS, with DHL Express for international orders.
- Free shipping. Best Wig Outlet says free shipping offers typically take 7 to 9 business days and may carry extra terms.
- Remote and territory addresses. Both stores say orders to P.O. Boxes, Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico and other US territories, and APO/FPO military addresses, ship by USPS regular service only.
- Signatures. Both say some packages need a signature, which they cannot waive, and any resulting fees fall on you.
- Refused or failed deliveries. The return shipping cost is deducted from your refund or store credit.
4. Duties and taxes
Both stores say an international package may be subject to import duty and taxes, that you pay them as the importer, and that they cannot predict the amount. ABC Wigs adds that it applies sales tax to purchases shipped to California. Our guide to customs duties and importing explains what VAT, duty and carrier fees can add.
Checklist before you order

- I know that trying the wig on, brushing or styling it can make it ineligible for a return.
- I know I pay return shipping and that free shipping is deducted from a refund.
- I know the return deadlines: 5 days to post after the RMA number, and 15 days from delivery at Best Wig Outlet.
- I checked whether the wig is marked "No Exchange, No Refunds".
- I checked the delivery estimate against the date I need the wig.
- If I am ordering from outside the US, I allowed for duties and taxes.
What to check before you buy
- The cap size, cap type and hair type on the product page.
- Whether the item is final sale before you add it to your basket.
- The return window and who pays shipping, shown at checkout as well as on the policy page.
- The store's contact details, and whether you can reach a person before you order. Our guide to whether an online store is legit has a quick set of checks.
What we could not confirm
- We have not tested any wig or store, and we did not check hair quality, fiber type or how a wig looks or fits.
- We read the two stores' return and shipping pages on 24 October 2026. Neither page shows an effective date, and both can change.
- We did not read the stores' sizing guides, care guides or terms and conditions.
- This is general information, not legal or medical advice. If you are buying a wig because of hair loss from a medical condition, ask your clinician about what you need.
