This guide is for shoppers thinking of buying clogs or other shoes from Dansko's own website and wondering how returns, exchanges and sizing work. It is not a review of the products. We have not tested any product. Policies change, so check the current pages before you order.

Quick answer

  • Dansko is an established brand selling direct. The domain dates to 1996 and the company describes itself as employee-owned since 2012.
  • Returns: 60 days from purchase for unworn, undamaged items, but since 1 April 2026 a $5.95 fee comes out of refunds.
  • Exchanges are free, and the store says full-priced footwear ships free with free exchanges, which helps if you are between sizes.
  • Pages disagree on some details, such as shipping to Alaska and Hawaii and processing time. See the table.
  • Verdict: A legitimate brand store with a fairly generous return window. The main costs are the return fee and the need to size carefully, since Dansko uses European sizes.

Who runs Dansko

The Our Story page says the company began in 1990 when founder Mandy Cabot brought the Danish clog design to the United States. It says Dansko became 100 percent employee-owned through an ESOP in 2012. The site footer names Dansko, LLC. The shoes carry the American Podiatric Medical Association Seal of Acceptance on listed collections, per the store. We did not check the APMA's own list, and a seal is not a promise that a shoe will suit you.

Sizing and fit

The FAQ and size chart say Dansko sizes follow European whole sizes, with a US comparison chart on the size page. Key points from the store:

  • Clog fit. A pinky width of space should sit between your heel and the back of a closed-back clog. Toes should not touch the front. The heel should move up and down as you walk.
  • Stepping in may feel snug. The size page says closed-back clogs may fit slightly snug on entry.
  • Open-back styles. Your heel may meet the back edge exactly or sit slightly forward of it.
  • Width. Most styles are medium width. The store lists narrow and wide clogs for women and men, and extra width in noted styles.
  • Adjustability. Some collections use laces, buckles, backstraps or elastic.
  • Orthotics. Some collections have removable footbeds. The store suggests trying shoes on with your own orthotics.
  • Between sizes. The store points to free shipping and free exchanges on full-priced footwear.

Because half sizes do not exist in the EU scale, check the chart and style notes, and use the exchange route if the first pair is off. For general tips see our guide to buying shoes online.

Shipping and delivery

The Shipping policy says ground shipping is free on footwear orders in the continental US, excluding Alaska and Hawaii. Faster FedEx service costs extra; the page lists $23 for 3-day and $25 for 2-day east of the Mississippi, and $32 and $37 west of it. Orders with several pairs may vary at checkout. The store does not ship to APO, FPO or DPO addresses, US territories or outside the United States. Orders ship Monday to Friday after 1 to 3 days of processing, and you get a tracking link by email.

The FAQ says orders cannot be changed after they are placed, all orders ship via FedEx, and shipping charges are non-refundable.

Returns and refunds

The Returns page says unworn, undamaged merchandise can be returned for a refund or exchange within 60 days of purchase. Start through the Return Center, entering your email or zip code. The store emails a prepaid label. Use the original shoe box where you can, and cover or remove old labels if you reuse the shipping carton.

Money details:

  • A $5.95 return fee is deducted from the refund. The FAQ says this took effect on 1 April 2026.
  • Exchanges are free: start a return and pick the new item.
  • Refunds go to the original payment method, up to 7 business days after inspection.
  • If you received the wrong item, choose that reason, upload a photo, and the store ships a replacement after it receives the return.
  • Afterpay purchases are returned through Dansko, not Afterpay.

Customers in Alaska and Hawaii: the Returns page says no exchanges because of special handling; contact customer service.

What shoppers say

  • Trustpilot (read 26 October 2026): one review dated 15 September 2026, five stars, praising comfort on long days. The profile is unclaimed. One review tells you very little.
  • BBB: we could not load a Dansko profile.
  • Reddit and other sites: a search returned no usable threads. A search result noted older FAQ versions that said online returns were free, which is out of date.

We therefore have no real picture of customer experience from third parties.

Verdict

Dansko's own pages describe a normal brand store with a clear process: 60 days to return, a modest return fee, free exchanges and free ground shipping on footwear. Nothing we read raises a scam concern, but there is little independent review data. Check sizing carefully and decide whether the Alaska and Hawaii and processing-time differences affect you.

Checklist before you order

  1. Read the size chart; remember sizes are European whole sizes.
  2. Check if your style comes in narrow, wide or adjustable versions.
  3. If you use orthotics, confirm the style has a removable footbed.
  4. Order within the free ground shipping area, or confirm Alaska and Hawaii terms with customer service first.
  5. Keep the shoe box and do not wear the shoes outdoors until you are sure.
  6. Plan to exchange rather than return, since exchanges avoid the $5.95 fee.
  7. Remember accessories, socks and personalized items are final sale.
  8. Save your order email and tracking details.

What we could not confirm

  • A Dansko warranty policy; none appeared on pages we read.
  • Company location; our pages named Dansko, LLC but gave no address we read.
  • BBB profile, Reddit threads and any substantial review sample.
  • Pages that conflict: the Shipping page says free ground shipping excludes Alaska and Hawaii, while the FAQ says orders ship to the continental US, Alaska and Hawaii; processing is 1 to 3 days on the Shipping page and 1 to 2 business days in the FAQ; the Returns page lists personalized items as final sale while the FAQ list omits them.
  • Which payment cards are accepted besides Afterpay.
