In 2025 the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warned retailers and consumers about some imported cookware. This guide only repeats what the FDA published and does not name brands beyond that.

This guide is based on the public sources listed at the end. We have not tested the products or services mentioned.

What the FDA warned about

The FDA warned about certain imported pots, pans and other items made from aluminum, brass or aluminum alloys, sold as Hindalium/Hindolium or Indalium/Indolium, that may leach significant lead into food. The page lists product labels as examples, not a complete list.

It advises throwing affected cookware away rather than donating or refurbishing it, and says anyone worried about lead exposure should contact a health care provider.

Where it was found

The FDA named grocery stores and distributors serving communities in several US states. The page names no online marketplace, and says some products may still be on sale because the distributor could not be identified.

What to check when buying cookware from abroad or unbranded

  1. Is the maker or importer named?
  2. Does the listing state the material clearly?
  3. Have you checked the FDA's page for the terms above?
  4. Avoid unlabeled aluminum or brass pots.

We make no recommendation about any imported brand. Read our guides to buying electronics from abroad and international shipping and customs for general checks.
